What is the difference between expression lines and static lines?
Expression (dynamic) lines show only during facial movement. Static lines remain when the face is at rest and usually develop as expression lines deepen over time.
Lines on the forehead, between the brows and at the corners of the eyes are typical expression lines. Years of repeated muscle movement and sun damage can make them visible at rest too.
If the line appears only with movement, approaches that reduce muscle activity may be discussed. If it has deepened, a muscle-focused approach alone may not be enough and tissue support can be considered.
How do volume loss and gravity lines form?
Changes in fat and bone structure create folds and sagging in the lower face. These lines relate more to lost volume and support than to muscle movement.
The nasolabial fold, marionette lines and hollowing below the cheekbones are examples. Surface treatments alone may not be enough here, because the issue is reduced support underneath.
At consultation the doctor looks at the whole face, not only the line but also the structure around it. The filler and mesotherapy pages outline these options in general terms.
Why are fine surface lines treated separately?
Fine lines in the upper skin layer mostly relate to sun damage and dryness, and are addressed with home care, peels or methods that support skin quality.
Retinoids, moisturising and sun protection are the basic steps for these lines. Doctor-led options may include peels, mesotherapy and device treatments, whose suitability varies with skin type and history.
How is the right approach decided?
Type and depth of the line, skin quality and personal expectations are weighed together. No one method suits every line; sometimes several are planned together.
At consultation the first question is whether the line relates to movement or to volume loss. Then risks, temporary effects and alternatives are discussed. This page is informational and does not mean a treatment is offered or that an outcome is certain.
Frequently asked questions
Which wrinkle type is linked to botulinum toxin?
Expression lines such as the forehead, glabella and eye corners usually come up. Suitability is assessed at consultation.
Why don't deep folds go away with cream?
These lines mostly relate to volume loss and sagging; surface care alone cannot change the structure.
Do wrinkles disappear completely?
No. Approaches can soften the look of lines; effects are temporary and vary between people.
Can wrinkle formation be delayed?
Sun protection, avoiding smoking and regular care may influence the pace. Preventive approaches for expression lines can be discussed with the doctor.
