What is Endolift and how does it work?
Endolift is a minimally invasive treatment in which a hair-thin laser fibre is guided beneath the skin and the tissue is heated from within by laser energy.
After local anaesthetic is given, a small entry point is made with a fine needle and the laser fibre is introduced beneath the skin. The fibre is moved slowly along planned lines while laser energy is delivered directly within the tissue, so no energy is applied to the surface from outside and no incision is made. A 1470 nm wavelength is commonly associated with this approach and is characterised by its affinity for water and fat.
The heat produced by the laser is intended to cause contraction of the connective tissue beneath the skin, stimulate repair and act on small fat deposits. Collagen production is expected to be stimulated during this process, and change usually develops gradually over weeks to months. The appearance straight after treatment is influenced by swelling, so the outcome is assessed only once healing is complete and the tissue has settled.
When is Endolift considered, and what does it not do?
It may be considered for mild to moderate laxity and small fat deposits of the lower face, jawline, under the chin and neck; it does not remove significant excess skin or replace lost volume.
Endolift is usually discussed for people whose jawline has begun to lose definition, or who have a small amount of fat and mild laxity under the chin. The lower cheeks and neck are also among the areas assessed. It is known to be used in delicate areas such as under the eyes in some cases, where the anatomy calls for particular care. The treatment area is agreed at consultation after examining the tissue.
It is not intended to achieve what surgery does for significant excess skin or advanced sagging. In people who already have little fat, further fat reduction could lead to an unwanted hollow appearance, so suitability is weighed carefully. Where volume loss at the cheeks or temples is the main concern, fillers or biostimulators may be more relevant. Discussing these limits from the outset helps keep expectations realistic.
Who may not be suitable for Endolift?
Treatment may be postponed or not advised during pregnancy, with active infection or skin disease in the area, with bleeding disorders and with certain medications.
Treatment is usually postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If there is active infection, a cold sore, eczema or an open wound in the area, treatment is usually delayed until this has healed. Because the treatment involves entering beneath the skin, bleeding disorders and blood thinners are assessed individually; medication should never be stopped on your own, only in agreement with the doctor who prescribed it. Allergy to local anaesthetics is also relevant.
Recent fillers or threads in the area, conditions that may affect wound healing such as poorly controlled diabetes, and a tendency to scar may change the plan. Certain drugs that increase sensitivity to light are also checked. Sharing your full medical history allows possible risks to be considered in advance. Suitability is determined by the physician in light of this information and the examination, and another specialist's opinion may be sought if needed.
What happens during treatment and afterwards?
The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic in sterile conditions; swelling and bruising lasting a few days to a few weeks may follow.
Treatment lines are marked on the skin, the area is disinfected and local anaesthetic is given. The fibre is introduced through the entry points and advanced across the planned area. You may feel warmth or pressure during the procedure. It is a medical procedure, so sterile conditions, a suitable setting and the physician's knowledge of anatomy are essential for a safe process. The duration depends on the size of the area treated.
After treatment, swelling, bruising, tenderness and small marks at the entry points may occur. Swelling may take from a few days to a few weeks to settle. Depending on the physician's advice, cold compresses, sleeping with the head slightly raised and avoiding strenuous exercise and hot environments for a while may be recommended. If you are travelling to Istanbul, plan to stay for the first days of recovery and agree on follow-up before flying home.
What are the possible side effects and risks?
Swelling, bruising and tenderness are common; burns, infection, surface irregularity, firmness and temporary changes in sensation or movement due to nerve irritation are reported rarely.
Common effects usually subside over time. Some people notice firmness or a sense of irregularity in the treated area that may last a few weeks. Rarely, surface burns, infection at the entry points, scarring or pigment change have been reported. If the fibre passes close to facial nerves, temporary numbness or a temporary change in facial movement may occur. Hollowing due to excessive fat reduction is another risk that needs to be kept in mind.
Treatment should therefore take place in a licensed healthcare facility, under the responsibility of a physician familiar with facial anatomy. If you notice increasing pain, redness, discharge or fever, contact your physician promptly. At a face-to-face consultation in Nişantaşı, your tissue, fat distribution and expectations are assessed to decide whether Endolift is a sensible option for you, and all of your questions are answered before any decision.
Frequently asked questions
Is Endolift surgery?
It is a minimally invasive medical procedure performed under local anaesthetic with a thin fibre and without incisions. It is not surgery, but because it involves entering beneath the skin, it requires sterile conditions and must be performed by a physician.
How long does swelling last after Endolift?
Swelling and bruising usually settle over a few days to a few weeks. The duration depends on the size of the treated area and your tissue.
How many Endolift sessions are needed?
It is often planned as a single session. Whether further treatment is appropriate is assessed at a review once healing is complete.
When can I fly home after Endolift?
Because swelling can be noticeable in the first days, many people prefer to stay in Istanbul for a short period after treatment. The timing of travel should be agreed with the physician based on your individual plan.
How does Endolift differ from Ultherapy?
Endolift delivers laser energy from within, via a fibre placed beneath the skin, whereas Ultherapy applies focused ultrasound from the skin surface. Which is considered is decided by the physician.
Does Endolift hurt?
Because Endolift is performed under local anaesthetic, most people feel warmth or pressure during the procedure; noticeable discomfort is usually limited to the first minutes, while the anaesthetic is injected. Tightness and tenderness to touch may follow for a few days after Endolift. Some painkillers can increase bruising, so ask your physician which medicine you can take during this period.
When will I see the results of Endolift?
The results of Endolift start to become clear once swelling has subsided; in the first weeks the appearance is affected by swelling, so it is too early to judge. Change linked to collagen remodelling usually develops gradually over several months, in some people for up to six months. Reviews and comparison photographs after Endolift are therefore usually planned a few months later.
Can Endolift get rid of under-eye bags?
With pronounced under-eye bags, the effect of Endolift is generally limited. Under-eye bags are mostly caused by the fat pads around the eye bulging forwards, and in that case options such as eyelid surgery may be discussed. For mild laxity or thin, crêpey skin under the eyes, Endolift may be considered only after careful assessment, because of the delicate anatomy of the area.
What is the difference between Endolift and chin liposuction?
The key difference is that chin liposuction removes fat from the body, whereas Endolift does not. Liposuction is a surgical procedure that suctions fat out through thin cannulas and is considered for more pronounced deposits. Endolift delivers laser energy through a fibre beneath the skin, aiming to act on small fat deposits and tighten the tissue. With more fat, a surgical opinion may help.
